MATCH REPORT: BURGESS HILL PHOENIX BLUE VS EASTBOURNE | 18/10/24
Last night was fixture 2 in the @womensflexultraleague division 1 for the Blues. @eastbourne_united_rec are a team we have played a lot and are really friendly with. However both teams were in it to win it. It started as a cagey affair but we eventually got into our flow and started to string together some nice passes, we were unlucky not to score against a very solid keeper in between the sticks. Then out of nowhere a back pass, a bobble, freak accident - we’d put the ball in our own net. 1-0 to Eastbourne.
Some teams would’ve blamed, argued, heads gone down. Not this team, every player said something positive. I heard “let’s have fun with this” “these things happen” “don’t worry we’ll pull it back” nothing but support and once again this team filled me with pride.
We carried on plugging away, lots of chances but the Eastbourne defence was solid and we went in at the break 1-0 down we were not down or out, the opposite.
"Don’t worry we’ll pull it back”.
We made a few changes bringing on some fresh legs. Phoenix created a fair few chances and then it happened - a lovely Jade lob and goal. A few minutes later Skilton had a chance parried by the keeper and Donna hit the 2nd ball, beating the keeper and the crowd went wild 🎉🎉🎉 (literally it was loud!!!). From there both teams played some nice football, trading attacks with Phoenix creating a fair few chances. Then 5 minutes from the end George smashed the ball into the bottom left corner. Game, set match 3-1 to the Phoenix ❤️🐦🔥⚽️
Goals scored by - Jade, Donna and George
